BEDROOMS

  · 8 rustic but charming bedrooms of various sizes located on the first floor.

 . Linen and towels are provided upon arrival and residents can use the washine machine located in the bathroom area free of charge to wash their sheets, towels and other personal belongings during their stay.

 · It is expected that each individual clean their bedroom during their stay and before departure.

BATHROOM

 · Can Serrat being an old farmhouse, the rooms aren't equipped with private bath: a community bathroom with sinks and showers is available on the ground floor, and is cleaned on a daily basis on week days.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MEALS

 · The cook prepares one communal meal a day (except Sundays), served in the evening around 8 PM.

 · Buffet style breakfast starts at 9AM and includes coffee, tea, milk, bread, butter, jam, cereals, yogurts, fruit juice, cheese, and ham.

 · Can serrat does not provide lunch: food and other personal items can be purchased in the town of El Bruc: artist residents can use use the fridges located in the community room to keep their own food. A microwave oven, toaster, water boiler and coffee machine are also available.

 . Please note that use of the kitchen is restricted to staff for both hygiene and safety reasons.

 · After each meal, each person is expected to dispose of their plates, cutlery and glasses in the 3 containers located in the kitchen.

 · You are welcome to make coffee or tea free of charge throughout the day.

 STUDIOS

 · A wine cellar (260 m2) has been converted into multi-use studio with facilities for printmaking and performance.

 · 3 large (shared) painting/multi-use studios (35, 50 and 75 m2.).

 · Ample outdoor workspace (both covered and open).

 · Equipment which can be used free of charge by artists includes: easels, drawing boards and some tools.

 · It is expected that each group or individual clean the studio-space they use during their stay.

 · Before departure each resident is asked to remove all materials and work, clean and paint the studio if necessary.

 · If you like to listen to music while working, please bring earphones so as not to disturb other artists sharing the studio.

 Printmaking Studio

· Price per day for using the printmaking studio is 4 EUR. Studio time should be reserved in advance.

 

 · A basic knowledge level is required for using the printmaking facilities unless during a workshop

situation in which an experienced printmaker is supervising the activities.

 

 · The studio is composed of a motorized chalcographic printing press (80 cm wide), glass tables,

blankets and a paper press. Some basic tools are available for use but it is suggested that experienced

printmakers bring their own set of tools. Please note that the studio is NOT set up for acid etching.

  MATERIALS

 · Materials which must be brought or purchased locally are inks, plates, varnish, personal tools, paper.

 · All necessary art supplies can be purchased in and around Barcelona. Guests at Can Serrat receive a professional discount at several retailers, please consult with the staff.

 SHIPPING

 · Make sure you plan for shipping works home. We do offer shipment service at a reasonable price, please contact the staff for more info.

 CLEANING

 · It is expected that each individual clean their bedroom and the studio (which also has to be painted if needed) both during their stay and before departing.

 THINGS TO BRING

 · Summer: Bring your towel for the municipal swimming pool and trips to the beach!

· Winter: The indoor temperature in Spain is normally low, so even though there is central heating at Can Serrat, you should bring warm clothes and shoes/slippers. The temperature is variable. There are warm days in January and cold evenings in May.

All year long: Bring a flashlight because the last section of the road that leads to Can Serrat is very dark at night.

 INSURANCE

 · All residents must come with their own health insurance.

 CHILDREN

 · Children find Can Serrat to be an exciting place!  Please note that Can Serrat is designed as a working place for artists, and parents should take care of them. Both indoors and out, machines as well as sharp tools, chemicals and so forth can be found. The house is old so small children must be looked after at all times.

 THE STAFF

 · The staff at Can Serrat includes a director, a chef, an artist coordinator, a cleaning lady and a caretaker.

· Please note that most of the staff works part time. Therefore, there will be times when the guests have the centre all to themselves.

 ARRIVAL

 · Please advise us at what time you will be arriving so we can have your room ready and

someone from the staff at the centre to welcome you.
