BATHROOM
· A community bathroom, sink and
shower area.
KITCHEN AND MEALS
· Communal meal - the cook prepares one communal meal a day (except Sundays).
· Setting the table and washing up after the prepared meal is divided between the guests staying at Can Serrat.
· The communal meal is normally served in the evening during summer, and at lunchtime during the rest of the year.
· Breakfast is a self-service meal and includes coffee, tea, milk, bread, butter and jam.
· The other meal is also self-service with bread, cheese, eggs and ham available.
· The fully equipped kitchen is available for residents to use when the cook is not in.
· After self-service meals, each person is expected to wash up after him or herself.
· Other food and personal necessities can be purchased in the town of El Bruc.
· You are welcome to make coffee or tea throughout the day.
SEMINAR ROOM
· Equipped with
pc for free Internet access, slide and over-head projectors,
DVD and video decks with a 36" monitor.
· Many parts of the house have wi-fi internet access.
COMMUNICATIONS:
· Guests may receive calls on the guest
phone, purchase a local calling card in town or use SKYPE
from the computer.
· If you like to talk online, bring a
headset or pick one up in Barcelona.
STUDIOS
· A wine cellar (260 m2) which has been converted into
multi-use
studios with facilities for printmaking and metal work with
tig welding equipment.
· Three large (shared) painting/multi-use studios (35, 50 and 75
m2.).
· Ample outdoor workspace (both covered and open).
· One of the bedrooms (for 1-2 persons) has a separate
private studio (20 m2) and terrace.
· Equipment which can be used freely by all artists
includes: easels, drawing boards and some tools.
· It is expected that each group or individual clean the
studio-space they use during their stay.
· Before
departure each resident is asked to remove all materials and
work, clean and paint the studio if necessary.
· If you
like to listen to music while working, please bring
earphones so as not to disturb your colleagues.
Metal Shop
· Use of the metal shop is reserved for
experienced workers in metal.
· A deposit is required for use of the tig welding equipment and residents must
purchase their own gas and materials.
Printmaking Studio
· The price per day for using the
printmaking studio is 3 Euro. Studio time should be reserved in
advance.
· A basic knowledge level is required for using the
printmaking facilities unless during a workshop situation in
which an experienced printmaker is supervising the
activities.
· Motorized chalcographic printing press (80 cm wide),
aquatint box, blankets and a paper press. Some basic
tools are available for use but it is suggested that
experienced printmakers bring their own tools.
Materials
· Materials which must be brought or purchased locally: Inks, plates, varnish, personal tools, paper.
· All necessary art supplies can be purchased in and around
Barcelona. Guests at Can Serrat receive a professional
discount at several retailers, please consult with the
staff.
Shipping
· Make sure you plan for shipping works
home.
· Rates are reasonable with the normal post, or you can
ship with a company like UPS
THINGS TO BRING
· Summer: Bring your towel for the municipal swimming
pool and trips to the beach!
· Winter: The indoor temperature in Spain is normally
low, so even though there is central heating at Can Serrat,
you should bring warm clothes and shoes/slippers. The
temperature is variable. There are warm days in January and
cold evenings in May.
INSURANCE
· All residents must come with their own health insurance.
CHILDREN
· Children find Can Serrat to be
an exciting place. But
please note that Can Serrat is designed as a working place
for artists, and parents should take care. Both indoors and
out, machines as well as sharp tools, chemicals and so forth
can be found. The house is old and some staircases are
without hand-railings. Small children must be looked after
at all times.
THE STAFF
· The staff at Can Serrat includes a administrator, a host, and a cook.
· Please, note that the staff at Can Serrat works part time (office
hours are 10.00-12.00 weekdays. Therefore, there will be times when the guests have the
centre all to themselves.
ARRIVAL:
· Please, note that you
normally can arrive to Can Serrat in the daytime any day from
Monday-Saturday. Please advise us at what time you will be arriving.
